Health & Safety

We know that the health and safety guidelines LSU has in place are not always convenient, and become more burdensome as the pandemic continues. But safety must be our guidepost, and we must work together to protect those among us who are most vulnerable. Everyone who comes to campus must adhere to the outlined protocols to minimize risks and protect the LSU community. We appreciate your cooperation in placing safety at the forefront of your priorities.

Physical Distancing

Maintain physical distancing of six feet whenever possible.

Face Coverings

Face covering use is required on campus in public spaces, especially when it is not possible to maintain appropriate physical distancing of at least six feet, such as entering and exiting campus buildings, moving through hallways, using common rooms, in classrooms, and frequenting other shared spaces. LSU will provide one LSU-branded cloth face covering to each employee and student returning to the physical campus this fall (see distribution plan). Please note: Face shields are not substitutions for face masks. If you choose to wear a face shield, it must be in combination with a face mask.

Failure to wear a face covering would mean a student is in violation of the student code of conduct or an employee is in violation of workplace policies.

Hand washing/ Hand Sanitizing

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or, if hand washing is not feasible, use hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol.

Coughing/Sneezing Etiquette

Remember, if you have to cough or sneeze, do so into a tissue or the inside your elbow rather than your hands. This will help to minimize the spread of germs as you touch doorknobs and surfaces.

Sanitation & Cleaning

Intensified cleaning has been implemented on campus according to CDC guidance, and cleaning protocols are being updated as new information is released by the CDC and others.

Building services custodial staff received updated training on the proper disinfecting training techniques required for this enhanced cleaning. The custodial staff will be conducting normal routine cleaning of bathrooms, hallways, offices, common areas, classrooms, teaching areas, break rooms, and conference rooms.

In addition, the custodial staff will clean frequently touched surfaces on a daily basis. The minimum frequency of cleaning for high touch areas include:

  • Twice daily for elevators, stairways, and restrooms
  • Once daily for doorknobs, light switches, and break rooms

At minimum, classrooms will be cleaned once a day, including doorknobs, light switches, chairs, and desks, as well as other hard surfaces.

Antibody Testing

LSU is offering all employees access to COVID-19 antibody testing. Testing is optional and results are confidential.

This service will be provided free of charge for employees with LSU First coverage. Employees who do not have LSU First coverage should verify with the location the amount of the charge prior to having the service performed.
