Move-In 2019

Move-In for fall 2019 is August 15-18, 2019.

As additional move-in information becomes available, it will be added to this page, emailed to students and mailed to home addresses.

Move-in Day is Saturday, August 17, 2019, for first-year students in residence halls.

Follow the instructions below to make your Move-in experience (and everyone else’s) go smoothly. It's a busy and exciting time, so please be patient, choose a good attitude and expect that elevators, parking lots and hallways will be crowded. We'll do our best to make it go smoothly.

Arrival Time Slots

Your arrival time is listed in the myLSU housing portal. This time is the beginning of your half-hour window to arrive at your staging area on Move-in Day. Arriving on Move-in Day outside of this time will cause delays. We cannot accept requests for a different arrival time.

If you cannot arrive during your assigned move-in time or choose not to arrive at that time, you must wait until after 4 p.m. on Saturday to access campus. After that time, traffic patterns will return to normal and official move-in assistance (volunteer help, traffic direction, staging lots, etc.) will no longer be in place. Families are welcome to continue the move-in process on their own throughout the weekend. Community front desks can check in residents between 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

Move-in Process

Once on campus, drivers are directed to staging areas to wait until a space in your hall’s unloading zone is available. No more than two (2) vehicles per student will be allowed to enter staging lots or unloading zones. Any additional cars without a staging area hang tag should go straight to Family and Friend lots. When it's your turn to drive to unloading zones, the Move-in Crew will issue short-term unloading zone passes.

Drivers must stay with their cars once in the unloading zone! Unattended cars parked in unloading zones or blocking the flow of traffic will be towed at the owner’s expense. (We don’t want to tow, but we have to keep the flow moving for ALL Tigers!)  Students arriving solo should just let your unloading zone volunteer know.

After unloading, drivers will be directed to interior campus parking or Family and Friends parking lots

Check-in Process

You should enter your main lobby with your Tiger Card  and go to each of the check-in stations. Your community staff will be there in purple t-shirts to guide you through.

Students arriving to campus prior to August 17 or after 4 p.m. on August 17 should drive directly to their residence hall front desk to check in. At that time, traffic patterns will return to normal and official move-in assistance (volunteer help, traffic direction, staging lots, etc.) will no longer be in place. Families are welcome to continue the move-in and check-in process on their own throughout the weekend. Community front desks can check in residents between 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

Residents must check into their residence hall or apartment by 11:59 p.m. on the first day of class to avoid rent penalties.

Where to Get Help on Move-in Day

If you need to pick up staging area hang tags on Move-in Day or receive your room assignment, travel to the LSU Welcome Center on the corner of Highland Road and Dalrymple Drive. Res Life staff will be available in the Welcome Center from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

FAQs

Where do I park?

Since Move-in is on a Saturday, parking is available in interior campus lots normally reserved for staff. Large lots on the perimeter of campus are also available for family and friends who do not need to go through the unloading zone process. Review the Move-in Parking map for details.

Do I have to arrive with my roommate?
No, Roommates do not have to arrive together; however, time slots are assigned by room. This allows roommates to have the option to arrive at the same time.

If you are part of a university-approved early arrival group and have confirmation of approval to move in before Saturday, please follow your group’s instructions on your moving-in process. Residential Life cannot accept requests for early move-ins. Contact your sponsoring group to confirm your early move-in status.

My roommate is moving in early, so can I just move in with her/him?
If your roommate is part of an early arrival group, and you are not, you are not allowed to move in until your approved arrival time. Moving in early without approval will result in nightly charges and may be subject to the student accountability process.

Please plan on going to the LSU Welcome Center during your arrival time to get your correct tags. The Welcome Center is located on the corner of Highland Road and Dalrymple Drive.
