 Wait Lists Open

Campus apartment wait lists will open on Monday, April 6, 2020, at 3 p.m. CST in the housing portal, where you can prioritize communities (ECA, WCA, NGW), apartment-style, and roommate preferences. Any student can access the wait list, whether you have a 2020-21 on-campus apartment assignment or not.

If a space becomes available, the Assignments Team will contact you via email, and you have 48 hours to respond to the email. We will move on to the next person on the wait list if we don’t hear from you. Make sure to check your email daily!

The Assignments Team will work through the spring and summer months to fulfill wait list requests. This process takes time, and we thank you for your patience in advance.

Room Changes Open

Current students who are interested in room changes should contact the Assignments Staff at reslife@lsu.edu to coordinate a room change request.

Roommates

To better accommodate your roommate preferences, you will be allowed to invite, or pull in, other residents into available spaces in your room or apartment.

  • You will only be able to pull in roommates who appear in your Roommate Group in the online housing portal.
  • Being in each others' Roommate Group does not guarantee you to be roommates.
  • Roommates must accept the room invitation in the housing portal and submit advance rent or the contracting fee to complete the process and secure the space. Invitations not accepted will be purged to make room for other students looking for spaces.

Advance Rent

A $250 (non-refundable) advanced rent payment is due to complete the contract renewal process for both on-campus apartments and residence halls. Payment must be made with a credit or debit card in the online housing portal within 24 hours of apartment/room reservation during the online renewal process. After 24 hours, reservations will be purged to make spaces available to other students.

The entire $250 will be applied toward regular rent in the fall. For those students that reserve a space, pay their fee bill, and move into their on-campus housing, advance rent will not cost any more money. However, those that cancel their assignment will forfeit the entire $250 advance rent amount, and are subject to the cancellation fee schedule.

Students who use scholarship money for their on-campus rent will need to pay the advance rent during the online renewal process with a credit or debit card. Advance rent will not affect the amount covered by scholarship. Once the scholarship funds are applied to the student’s fee bill, the entire housing charge will be paid, and any overage in the student account will be refunded to the student’s account.

The advance rent program is part of Residential Life’s concerted effort to keep apartment and residence hall spaces open and available to those students who are truly serious about staying on campus.

Pelican Promise: If you have the Pelican Promise award, you do not have to submit the $250 advance rent payment at the time of contracting. The advance rent payment is deferred to your fall fee bill.

Wait Lists

If you did not secure an apartment during leasing and are still interested in living in on-campus apartments for the 2020-21 school year, complete the available steps in the housing portal in myLSU to add yourself to the apartment wait list(s) of your choice.

Campus apartment wait lists will open on Monday, April 6, 2020, at 3 p.m. CST in the housing portal (myLSU>Student Services>On-campus Housing), where you can prioritize communities (ECA, WCA, NGW), apartment-style, and roommate preferences. Any student can access the waitlist, whether you have a 2020-21 on-campus apartment assignment or not.

Our goal is to find space throughout the spring and summer using vacancies that occur from room changes or cancellations to offer you an apartment space that better meets your preferences in the quickest and fairest way possible. While it is not guaranteed, we will do our best. This process takes time, and we thank you for your patience in advance. You are always welcome to contact us for an update by emailing reslife@lsu.edu.

Wait Lists FAQs

How will I know if I have a fall space from the wait lists?

If a space becomes available, the Assignments Team will contact you via email, and you have 48 hours to respond to the email. We will move on to the next person on the waitlist if we don’t hear from you. Make sure to check your email daily!

Residents who currently have a fall booking will not lose that space or the advance rent payment by joining a wait list.

By joining a wait list, there is no guarantee a space will become available.

What if I have a preferred roommate?

If you want to bring your roommate with you in the case that you are moved, your roommate(s) should also complete the waitlist form in the portal. Ensuring that all interested parties are on the waitlist will assist Residential Life with hopefully finding you a more preferred option on campus. Our Assignments Team will work to accommodate roommate requests as space allows.

Do I have to pay advance rent to be on a wait list?

Not at this time. Students are only required to pay advance rent once they secure an exact room assignment. Once the Assignments Team assigns you to a space, you will have 48 hours to pay your advance rent. Instructions will be provided to you with your assignment information.

By completing the contract and signing up for the wait lists, am I subject to any penalties related to the contract?

Not at this time. Students confirm their contract by paying advance rent. Students with an active contract and no advance rent payment will be purged from the system as determined by the Assignments Team.

Need to cancel your fall housing reservation?

Please complete the cancellation request. Residents who have paid the advance rent payment and decide to cancel their fall reservation will forfeit the $250 per the housing contract and are subject to cancellation penalties.
