Upward Bound

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to participate in Upward Bound?

Every service we provide, including the six-week summer programs, trips, and tutoring services, is free of charge.

Which schools do you serve?

Although we primarily serve Tara and Woodlawn High Schools, we are eager to work with students from other local area high schools within the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. Don't hesitate to reach out and let us know you're interested.

What if I'm curious about a college that's not in Baton Rouge?

We know how important it is that you find the right fit for your college journey. In the past, we have visited a variety of college campuses, both state-wide and regionally, based upon interest.

Does Upward Bound offer financial assistance for my ACT exam?

Yes. We will cover the registration costs for four exams.

How do ACT and SAT differ? Will UB pay for my SAT, too?

Both are standardized tests used for college admissions requirements. The ACT score range is 1-36; SAT, 400-1600. We only pay for the ACT, and this includes ACT prep.

Will I be able to join extracurricular activities at my school while in Upward Bound?

Absolutely. We encourage you to participate in school sports, clubs, drama and/or band. Although we stress commitment to the UB program, we understand that extracurriculars add value to your overall experience. We will work with you if you have scheduled events or performances that conflict with a UB activity.

How do I qualify for Upward Bound? What are the next steps?

Glad you asked! First step—make sure you're eligible. If you qualify, simply fill out and submit your application. After we review your information, we will invite you for an interview. You may submit an application at any time.
