BATON ROUGE – LSU is rated as a top 50 best value among public universities and 88th overall in Forbes 2018 America’s Best Value Colleges rankings.

LSU is the highest rated university in Louisiana on the list and the 44th best value among public universities in the nation, according to Forbes. Among SEC peers, LSU is the fifth best value ahead of Auburn University, University of Alabama, University of Kentucky, University of Mississippi and University of Missouri, among others.

“We are pleased to be recognized as one of the best values in the country by Forbes,” said LSU President F. King Alexander. “This ranking looks at what truly matters to parents and students: outcomes. Universities should be measured by the ways they impact families – student debt, starting salaries, graduation rates, and financial aid support. These are the areas important to students when making a college choice, and at LSU, these are the areas we focus on to make sure students obtain an affordable and competitive college degree.”

Forbes has released their America’s Best Value Colleges ranking for the last three years “to help students and their families evaluate the likely return on their investment.” For the ranking of 300 schools, Forbes scored universities on net price, net debt, alumni earnings, timely graduation, school quality and access for low-income students. The list evaluates institutions offering four-year degrees and does not include private for-profit schools.

Alexander has long been a proponent of universities publicizing their outcome measures. Forbes utilizes two sources, Payscale and the College Scorecard, which show direct results and return on investment for students attending a university. According to Payscale, a student who earns a bachelor’s degree from LSU has early career earnings of $51,800 and mid-career earnings of $98,800 – the highest among all public universities in Louisiana. When considering all alumni who attended LSU, graduates have early career earnings of $52,700 and mid-career earnings of $100,400 – also the highest among Louisiana public universities.
