INNER HEROES: What’s Your Hero’s Major?

University College to host INNER HEROES workshops in September and October

BATON ROUGE – LSU University College will host 12 interactive INNER HEROES workshops Sept. 27-29 and Oct. 11-13, in 150 Allen Hall, located next to Middleton Library in the LSU Quadrangle. 

INNER HEROES is a series of interactive workshops that assist in discovering natural strengths and talents, determining ideal careers and claiming the path to success. The workshops, which are based on four primary major personality types, utilize assessments and group discussions to help identify the best majors and career options for students experiencing difficulty making these decisions. 

The workshops are free and open to all LSU students – students who are undecided; students seeking to confirm their choice of major; and students interested in learning more about their unique strengths and talents. Students can come to meet their inner hero and find their ideal majors.

LSU University College academic counselor and coordinator of INNER HEROES, Erin Anthony said that since University College first started conducting the workshops three years ago, participants leave feeling as if they have been able to alleviate some of the stress related to career and major indecision by participating in these fun, creative and exploratory workshops.

“With the help of our academic counselors, students are often surprised to discover that they have more insight into their own skills and interests than they previously gave themselves credit for.  Our students seem to really like these guided contemplation-oriented activities,” Anthony said.

LSU University College’s executive director R. Paul Ivey said that INNER HEROES has proven to be an effective, unassuming approach to engage students with an initial exploration of careers and college majors.

“It is an entertaining look at how your personality can impact this exploration. I encourage anyone who is in the early stages of career exploration to participate in this University College sponsored workshop,” Ivey said.

INNER HEROES registration is easy. Students should register with University College online HERE, by phone at 578-6822 or stop in 150 Allen Hall.

INNER HEROES workshop dates/times:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 27 – 10:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-2:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 28 – 10-11 a.m. and 2-3 p.m.
  • Thursday, Sept. 29 – 10:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-2:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 11 – 10:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-2:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 12 – 10-11 a.m. and 2-3 p.m.
  • Thursday, Oct. 13 – 10:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-2:30 p.m.

INNER HEROES workshops are based on Carolyn Kalil’s “Follow Your INNER HEROES to the Work You Love.”

Since 1933, LSU University College has served as the portal of entry for students enrolled at LSU.  Academic and personal success is the hallmark of a well-rounded student, and University College provides a foundation of support services for students beginning their academic careers at LSU.  University College has two enrollment divisions: The Center for Freshman Year and The Center for Advising and Counseling.  Additionally, University College offers retention-specific programs: Student Support Services, Ronald E. McNair Research Scholars and Summer Scholars.  These academic support programs focus on particular student populations and are a significant part of the role and mission of University College.
