Area of Interest

Fasching-Varner’s areas of scholarly expertise and interest center on the intersection of White Racial Identity (WRI), Critical Race Theory (CRT), and Culturally Relevant Pedagogy. He has published articles in Social Identities: Journal for the Studies of Race, Nation, and Culture, Linguistics and Education, and Midwest Educational Researcher as well as contributions in texts by Peter Lang, The International Reading Association, and Nova publishers.  He is on the editorial board of the Australian Multicultural Interaction Institute and their associated journal International Journal of Innovative Interdisciplinary Research. Fasching Varner is certified to teach Spanish (7-12), Elementary (PreK-6), Special Education (PreK-12), and Literacy (PreK-12 in New York and is licensed to teach Elementary, Special Education, and Reading in Nevada. Fasching-Varner studied Language, Literacy, and Culture with a focus on Critical Race Theory and Culturally Relevant Pedagogy at The Ohio State University in Columbus Ohio.

Dr. Varner is also a faculty member of the Curriculum Theory Project and the African and African-American Studies program at LSU.
