Miscanthus sinensis ‘Variegatus’

Variegated Japanese Silver Grass

Variegated Japanese Silver Grass has been used in landscapes since the beginning of the 20th century and remains one of the most popular variegated forms of Miscanthus. ‘Variegatus’ has a wide leaf blade (½ inch in width) and distinctive yellow-white variegation running parallel along the leaf blade.  The rather loose clump of foliage reaches 3-5 feet in height and tends to flop late in the season. Staking may be required on older clumps. Other variegated selections exist including 'Cabaret', 'Cosmopolitan' and 'Morning Light' which has narrow leaves similar to ‘Gracillimus’
