Tung Oil Tree

Identification:  Showy white flowers with red center in spring; ovate leaf, dark green and glossy; applelike drupe with a thick husk.

Note: Tung Oil tree was cultivated during World War II for fine grade engine oil derived from the seed.  The oil is also used in paints and varnishes.  Seed and leaf are poisonous.  In flower the tree is showy, but the fruit can become messy.
