Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity

Kappa Kappa Psi Fraternity was founded on the campus of Oklahoma State University in 1919 to serve the College and University band programs. Kappa Kappa Psi operates primarily as a student service and leadership recognition society whose chief aim is to assist the band program. The goals are to provide the band not only with organized and concentrated service activities, but to give the membership valid and wholesome experiences in organization, leadership and social contacts. The honorary nature of membership is based on the premise that "it is an honor to be selected to serve" the band, its department of music, its sponsoring institution, and the cause of band music in the nation's colleges and universities.

National Band Association Student Chapter

The National Band Association, founded on September 11, 1960, is the largest band directors' professional organization in the world. It was organized for the purpose of promoting the musical and educational significance of bands and is dedicated to the attainment of a high level of excellence for bands and band music. NBA is an organization open to anyone and everyone interested in bands, regardless of the length of his/her experience, type of position held, or the specific level at which he/she works. The membership roster includes men and women from every facet of the band world. NBA is today's band directors' professional organization. It stands ready to serve all members of the association in a variety of ways.

The NBA Student Chapter is a recent initiative within the organization, designed to be an inclusive, service-oriented organization within a college music department.

Privileges of Student Membership include:

  • The Instrumentalist -- official magazine and received each month
  • The NBA Journal -- accessed online and published in May and December

Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity

Sigma Alpha Iota was founded on June 12, 1903 at the University School of Music, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Incorporation papers, under the laws of the State of Michigan, were signed December 1, 1904, and recorded December 15, 1904.

Purpose of Sigma Alpha Iota:

  • TO FORM chapters of women college students and alumnae who have a sincere interest in music.
  • TO UPHOLD the highest standards of music.
  • TO FURTHER the development of music in America and throughout the world.
  • TO GIVE inspiration and encouragement to members.
  • TO ORGANIZE the cultural life of Sigma Alpha Iota members as a contributing factor to their educational growth.
  • TO SUPPORT the ideals and goals of the member's Alma Mater;
  • TO ADHERE to the highest standards of citizenship in school, community and fraternity life.

The Mission of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity is to encourage, nurture and support the art of music. The Vision of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity is to be recognized throughout the world as the foremost fraternity that:

  • Supports and encourages women musicians of all ages, races, and nationalities
  • Supports and promotes successful and innovative educational programs in music for all stages of life
  • Cultivates excellence in musical performance
  • Promotes programs and activities that stress the love and importance of music in our lives
  • Recognizes technological advances in the field of music
  • Dedicates financial resources that ensure the continuation of programs necessary to support the objectives of the fraternity in perpetuity
  • Has as its members people who exemplify professional and ethical behavior in the spirit of the Sigma Alpha Iota founders.


NAfME membership allows for student participation at the college and university levels. Any college or university that is qualified to prepare students for certification and employment as music teachers in public, private, or parochial schools, or that offers a preparatory program for a teacher education curriculum that may lead to such certification may have a collegiate chapter of NAfME.
