More than 5,800 new freshmen enrolled at LSU this fall, surpassing 2012's record for
largest incoming class. The holistically admitted 2018 freshman class enters LSU with
an average GPA of 3.5 and an average ACT score of just under 26 — holding steady from
last year’s record-breaking academic profile. The students also represent the most
diverse freshmen class ever at LSU, as well as the largest in-state and out-of-state
class on record.

Turner and Fischer Make $4 Million Donation to College of Music and Dramatic Arts
Baton Rouge resident John Turner's and LSU Alumnus Jerry Fischer's historic donation ensures the college has a strong, prosperous future. As the largest gift in the college's
history, it will allow LSU Opera, established in 1931, to create the John G. Turner
and Jerry G. Fischer Center for Opera at LSU and to renovate the LSU School of Music
Recital Hall.

LSU Ranked 1st in SEC for Graduate Earnings
According to Washington Monthly's 2018 College Guide and Rankings, LSU ranked first in Louisiana higher education. Regarding earnings performance,
LSU ranked first in the SEC and No. 8 among flagship universities nationwide. LSU
also ranked No. 40 in affordability for universities.

LSU's Awarded $200K From Louisiana Sea Grant
The Louisiana Sea Grant awarded $200,000 to LSU's Manship School and College of Humanities and Social Sciences
to fund research analyzing how managers communicate vital information to coast communities
about hazardous conditions.

The National Institutes of Health awarded a $2.5 million translational research grant
to Noelle Moreau, Associate Professor of Physical Therapy at LSU Health New Orleans'
School of Allied Health Professions, to study the effectiveness of a highly innovative approach to help children diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy walk again.

Experience the stately oaks, a sunset over the lakes and a visit to Mike the Tiger’s
habitat all in one place. LSU alumnus Michael Key captures the heart and spirit of
LSU through his photography exhibit: “Forever LSU.” The exhibit is free and all are welcome to attend.

September 25, 5 p.m. at The Varsity Theatre
Join LSU Office of Research & Economic Development as Wayne Newhauser, director of
the LSU Medical Physics Department, shares how 3D imaging is changing the health industry. He and his students are using the latest technology
to detect and treat cancer.
Doors open at 5 p.m. for free food and networking, and the talk will start at 6 p.m.
