BATON ROUGE – Accounting major Vivian Carter of Homer, La., has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, or PCAOB. The PCAOB Scholarship Program awards funds to outstanding undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in an accounting degree program at a regionally accredited U.S. college or university. The Program is merit-based and awarded to select students who demonstrate interest and aptitude in accounting and auditing while maintaining and demonstrating high ethical standards.

“Receiving the PCAOB scholarship has been instrumental in my success as a student because it has provided me with the means to remain at LSU to continue my education,” said Carter. “This award means so much to me and has shown me that hard work pays off. I am so thankful to have been selected to receive this scholarship and look forward to obtaining my master's degree.”

Carter graduated in May 2019 with a BS in accounting and has had an internship with Armentor and Associates, a tax firm local to Baton Rouge, and has worked there for 2 & 1/2 years. She plans to continue her studies by pursuing a Master of Accountancy at LSU, sit for the CPA exam and work for a few years in public accounting before obtaining a Ph.D.

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board is a nonprofit corporation established by Congress to oversee the audits of public companies to protect the interests of investors and further the public interest in the preparation of informative, accurate and independent audit reports. The PCAOB also oversees the audits of broker-dealers, including compliance reports filed under federal securities laws, to promote investor protection.
