Plant and Soil Systems

Soil Science

Learn about the properties of soil and its importance in agricultural production and environmental sustainability. Study the science behind soil health as you learn about physical, chemical, and biological factors that affect crop production, soil fertility, air and water quality, soil conservation, and the management of weeds, insects, fungi, and other crop pests. Students in this major receive a broad education that prepares them for a variety of career paths.

Career Possibilities: soil conservationist, soil scientist, agronomist, county agricultural agent, crop consultant, crop scientist, public health, graduate or professional school.
