SAS Tips

Send File to TSO

  1. Navigate to READY prompt
  2. At top of page, select SEND
  3. Host: enter the path and file name you wish to transfer (ex: c:\myfile.txt)
  4. Transfer File: name of the dataset (ex: ‘temp.data’)
  5. Transfer Type:
    • append – use when transferring data to an existing dataset
    • text – text only files
    • binary – files which contain coding only recognizable by programs
  6. Select ADD TO LIST
  7. Select SEND  

Receive File to TSO

  1. Navigate to READY prompt
  2. At top of page, select RECEIVE 
  3. Host: name of the dataset you wish to transfer (ex: ‘temp.data’)
  4. Transfer File: enter the path and file name (ex: c:\myfile.txt)
  5. Transfer Type:
    • append – use when transferring data to an existing dataset
    • text – text only files
    • binary – files which contain coding only recognizable by programs
  6. Select ADD TO LIST
  7. Select RECEIVE

Printing Code

To print code, navigate to screen TSO PRINTDA ‘dataset name’ DEST (printer destination)

Copy from Mainframe into an Application (i.e., Word)

  1. Open the application and navigate to the mainframe screen you will be copying from.
  2. Mark the text you want to copy from the mainframe screen
    1. With the Mouse: Hold the left mouse button down and put a box around the data you want to copy
    2. Keyboard: Place the cursor under the data you want to copy and hold SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW until information to be copied is in a box.
  3. Press SHIFT-DELETE
  4. Place cursor where you want to paste the data; press the Paste Icon or EDIT-PASTE from the menu.

The data is now copied from the mainframe via the clipboard to your application.

This process can also be reversed in order to copy from your application into mainframe.

Copy From Mainframe to Mainframe

To copy data from any screen in the mainframe to another screen in the mainframe:

  1. Mark the text you want to copy.
    1. With the Mouse: Hold the left mouse button down and put a box around the data you want to copy.
    2. With the Keyboard: Place the cursor under the data you want to copy and hold down the SHIFT + RIGHT ARROW until what you want copied is in a box.
  2. Copy the data.
    1. With the Mouse: Click the Copy Icon
    2. With the Keyboard: Press Shift-Delete
  3. Switch to the screen and location you want to copy into.
  4. Paste into the field.
    1. With the Mouse: Click the Paste Icon
    2. With the Keyboard: Press Shift - Insert

Screen Print

  1. In order to screen print from the Emulator, select PrtScrn icon at the top left of the screen.
  2. Print a block of text by marking it first:
    1. Mark y holding down left mouse button and drawing a block around what you want to be printed.
    2. Then click the icon.
  3. If you decide you do not want to print what you have just blocked, press the left mouse button once and it will remove the block.
