Professor, School of Education
Special Advisor to the President

Dr. Arbuthnot conducts research in the field of education and testing. She has published many articles, has authored two books: Filling in the Blanks: Understanding the Black-White Achievement Gap and Global Perspective on Educational Testing: Examining Fairness, High-Stakes, and Policy Reform. She is recognized nationally and internationally for her research on standardized testing and assessments, test fairness issues, and STEM education and achievement. Dr. Arbuthnot started her career as a high school mathematics teacher and acknowledges that her experiences in the classroom still has a significant impact on her research and teaching.

She is responsible for coordination of strategic planning and foundation work for the LSU Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion to ensure the development and implementation of programs and services that foster a campus community committed to diversity and inclusion.

Faculty Discussion & Workgroups

Facilitated by members from the Learning & Teaching Collaborative, faculty will identify goals, translate them into teaching and actionable steps to get there. 

Breakout Sessions (1-3 PM Optional) & grab & geaux lunch 

After the working groups, grab a lunch and attend one of the three breakout sessions:

Breakout Session 1: Service-Learning at LSU: What is it? What support does LSU offer? 

Small group roundtable session geared at answering questions about service-learning teaching and research approaches and introducing participants to the resources and support LSU has to offer those who adopt them.

Breakout Session 2: LSU Discover: Finding and Engaging students in Undergraduate Research

This breakout will discuss how to engage students in undergraduate research experiences across disciplines.  In particular, she will discuss how to find students, funding opportunities for students, and resources available to undergraduate researchers. Led by: Sarah Ferstel, Associate Director of Discover Undergraduate Research Program.
