    CCELL Launches Challenge Fundraiser

CCELL has launched a new fundraising campaign, the CCELL Challenge, with the goal of raising $20,000 by the end of 2013. Retired LSU architecture professor Barrett Kennedy and wife Peggy Reily, who issued the challenge, will provide an additional $20,000 donation if the center raises matching funds by 2014. Campaign proceeds will go toward the establishment of an endowment account that will annually generate income for CCELL, LSU’s office for service-learning and campus-community partnerships.

Interest from the $40,000 endowment account will enable CCELL to fund community-university listening sessions and discussion panels; end-of-semester celebration grants for service-learning partnerships; and travel to conferences for faculty, students and community partners. As the endowment grows, CCELL hopes to provide grants for students to complete significant community-based research, design and/or service-learning projects.

Kennedy believes the endowed fund will help bolster an important program at LSU, and impact the community at large in necessary and productive ways.

“Our donation is to support CCELL, but we also see it as directly going to the community,” said Barrett.  “It’s an investment in developing student citizens through the experience of service to Louisiana communities. We also hope that students will develop a stronger connection to Louisiana through their service-learning projects – a deep and enduring connection that compels them to be a force of positive change in Louisiana after graduation. They are the future, the state needs them, and our communities will grow and prosper through their best efforts.”
