Ross Ahlhorn

Assistant Professor of Trumpet


 

Biography

International performing artist, Dr. Ross Ahlhorn, currently serves as Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Louisiana State University, and the principal trumpeter of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Ahlhorn has previously held teaching positions at the University of Central Arkansas, Washington and Lee University, Southern Virginia University, and James Madison University.

Dr. Ahlhorn’s international performance experience has taken him from Brazil, Bolivia, Austria, and Germany with notable venues such as Vienna’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Eisenstadt’s Esterhazy Palace, Salzburg’s Mozarteum, New York City’s Weil Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, among others. Dr. Ahlhorn has had the pleasure of performing with the Scottsdale Philharmonic Orchestra (Scottsdale, AZ), the Salt River Brass (Mesa, AZ), the Waynesboro Symphony Orchestra (Waynesboro, VA), the Charlottesville Symphony Orchestra (Charlottesville, VA), Pinnacle Brass, Madison Brass, and the Arkansas Symphony Brass Quintet. Dr. Ahlhorn can be heard on the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra’s recent recordings of Florence Price’s Concerto for Piano in One Movement with Karen Walwyn, and Christopher Theofanidis’ The Wind and Petit Jean.

Dr. Ahlhorn completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Trumpet Performance, Pedagogy, and Literature at James Madison University, a Masters of Music degree from Arizona State University, and a Bachelors of Music degree from Baylor University. Dr. Ahlhorn’s primary trumpet teachers have been Dr. Chris Carrillo, Prof. David Hickman, Prof. Wiff Rudd, and Dr. Ryan Gardner. Dr. Ahlhorn is proud to be an S.E. Shires Co. Performing Artist.
