Standards & Safety
Standards & Recognition Program (STAR)
Excellence in Community
We care deeply about the well-being of our students and our campus community. LSU fraternity and sorority members thrive in an environment where chapters and leadership prioritize member safety and wellbeing, personal development, and campus and community involvement.
To further this commitment and ensure accountability and transparency, every fraternity and sorority must annually submit materials that focus on the Values and Standards of LSU Greek Life through the Standards & Recognition Program (STAR). Chapters are assigned a one through five STAR level based on the community values and standards of health, safety, and wellbeing, membership education, and participation and involvement.
STAR Program Goals
- Provide guidance for chapter operational success based on the three sets of Values & Standards of Greek Life at LSU:
- Assess chapters based on the Values & Standards of Greek Life at LSU.
- Recognize high-performing chapters and identify areas of development for under-performing chapters
- Hold chapters accountable to all values, standards, and minimum community expectations.
- Encourage all chapters to seek five start status.
STAR Levels
- One Star: Chapter meets the minimum health and safety standards required
- Two to Five Stars: Every chapter has the option to complete each STAR LEVEL above one star and be assessed on the completion of all prompts associated with each level.
Health, Safety, & Wellbeing
Fraternity and sorority members are equipped with prevention strategies, educational resources, and programming opportunities aimed at reducing risks specific to their experience in Greek Life while improving the overall health and safety of the community, their chapter, and all individuals.

Code of Student Conduct
The Code of Student Conduct encourages responsible decision making, safeguards the health and welfare of all members of the University community, protects University property, and promotes academic integrity including class attendance.
Amnesty
Student safety is of utmost importance to the University. To encourage Students to make responsible decisions, the University recognizes the need for amnesty from University sanctions in certain situations. Amnesty under this policy, when granted, excuses a Student or Registered Student Organization (RSO) from University sanctions under the Code. Amnesty is intended to promote action when an emergency situation is present.
