Tony Award-Winner to Perform at LSU Student Union Theater
BATON ROUGE – On Sunday, Sept. 11, Tony Award-winning actor, singer and dancer Ben Vereen will perform his one-man show, "Steppin' Out with Ben Vereen," at the LSU Student Union Theater to kick off the 2011-12 "Union Theater Presents" series. The performance begins at 2:30 p.m. and tickets range from $40-$69.
"Steppin' Out with Ben Vereen" is a unique blend of artistry, combining a tribute to Broadway, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. Featuring hit songs such as "Defying Gravity," "Mr. Bojangles," "Something's Coming" and "Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries," it's a contemporary and timeless journey through the Broadway songbook.
After being nominated for a Tony Award for his role in "Jesus Christ Superstar" in 1972, Vereen went on to win a 1973 Tony Award for his work in "Pippin." In addition, he appeared as the Wizard of Oz in the 2005 Broadway production of "Wicked."
Vereen has also been in several movies, most notabely in "Funny Lady" and "All That Jazz," and appeared on the small screen with roles in the 1977 miniseries "Roots," a 1994 episode of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and two 2010 episodes of "How I Met Your Mother."
