Student Government elections are held each Fall and Spring semester. The Fall election includes positions on the Legislative Branch (or Student Senate). In the Spring, elections are held for the Student Body President, Student Body Vice President, College Council officers, and the Student Senate. Positions on the Judicial Branch are appointed by the Student Body President and confirmed by the Student Senate.
To hold a position in Student Government, a student must meet the minimum qualifications listed in the Student Government Election Code (Article III, Section 7 - Qualifying). To run for a position, a student must submit a candidate form to the Student Government Election Board. This process is known as filing. After a student has filed for office, he or she must attend a mandatory meeting where more information will be shared about the branch or position they are interested in holding.
Candidates are allowed to campaign for one week prior to the general election. Voting in the general election takes place on Moodle for one day. If any position requires a run-off, the run-off election will be held one week after the general election.
The Election Board is an impartial body of at least seven (7) students chaired by the Commissioner of Elections “to ensure honest elections, which are fair to all involved.” Students on the Election Board must remain neutral regarding all Student Government Elections.
