Campus Living & Safety

LSU is like a small community within the larger Capital City of Baton Rouge. Like any community, we are dedicated to preserving a peaceful, safe, and healthy environment for the entire university community.

Housing

Whether you're coming to Baton Rouge from across the country or just down the road, living on campus gives you total access to all the LSU community has to offer right at your doorstep – academics, tradition, passion, involvement, culture, and more. LSU Residential Life enhances the full campus experiences of residents through living-learning communities, dedicated on-call staff and intentional programming.

Parking & Transportation

Student vehicles are welcome on campus but require a valid parking permit, which can be obtained during the LSU registration process. Permits are required at all hours, day and night.

In addition, LSU is a bike-friendly campus; however, Baton Rouge city ordinance requires bicycles to be registered with the Baton Rouge Police Department. This registration costs $5.

Campus Communication

When the university is faced with a serious issue that impacts the day-to-day activities or services provided to students, every effort will be made to communicate the issue and, when possible, the anticipated resolution or timeframe of disruption. Depending on the issue the university is faced with, communication channels may include the LSU homepage, offical social media channels, internal broadcast emails to the campus community, and the emergency text messaging system.

Here are some effective ways to reach out to the university when you've heard, read, or experienced something outlandish or upsetting.

  • Check the LSU homepage or the specific department page that would be responsible for the area of concern. A complete, alphabetical list of department websites can be found from the LSU homepage by selecting "Directories."
  • Follow an official LSU social media channel. A complete list of university managed social media accounts can be found on LSU's social media directory
  • Sign up to receive monthly email updates from Parent & Family Programs.
