The UREC Mission
University Recreation provides exceptional recreation facilities and programs that inspire, educate and empower students and the university to cultivate active lives.if you can play, you can play at UREC
You Can Play is dedicated to ensuring respect and safety for all athletes, without regard to sexual orientation. You Can Play works to guarantee that athletes are given a fair opportunity to compete, judged by other athletes and fans alike, only by what they contribute to the sport or their team’s success. You Can Play seeks to challenge the culture of locker rooms and spectator areas by focusing only on an athlete’s skills, work ethic and competitive spirit.
Accessible Recreation
Available on the first floor of the fitness area. Signage is provided to make patrons aware that it is an accessible area, and all equipment is marked with the International Symbol of Access. Equipment in this area is spaced out to ensure access is easier for a wheelchair user or others with disabilities.
All machines have instruction plates on them for use.
No classes are strictly provided for students with disabilities. All instructors are trained in how to adapt exercises to meet the needs of participants (easier/harder movements or adaptations). The same for personal trainers through their certification classes.
Training is provided for how to guide patrons with visual impairments. The staff is also knowledgeable about our accessible area on the first floor. On-shift fitness staff is available for questions and assistance as requested by the patron.
