Biological Sciences

The department offers a M.S. and Ph.D. degree in both Biochemistry and Biological Sciences.

Biochemistry concentrates on the many disciplines intrinsic to Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Biological Sciences emphasizes modern interdisciplinary approaches to biology in areas such as bioinformatics, systematics, ecology, cell biology, and physiology; and also the traditional organism based approaches such as botany, microbiology and zoology.

Chemistry

The department offers a M.S. and Ph.D. degree in Chemistry. In general, students who have earned the equivalent of a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry are eligible to apply. However, students from the Republic of India and the People's Republic of China must have earned a Master's degree in Chemistry or an equivalent field.

You may view an outline of the Ph.D. Program, learn about financial assistance and course offerings, and read brief descriptions of the research interests of each graduate faculty member.

The focus areas of the research-active tenure-track faculty are as follows: Analytical, Macromolecular, Inorganic, Organic and Physical. A number of these faculty members have interdisciplinary interests in fields such as biophysical, bioorganic, bioinorganic, and organometallic chemistry. There is an active Macromolecular Studies Group that contains faculty from Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry and Physics.
