Meet the K9s
Jazz
My name is Jazz and I am a 7 1/2 year old female black Labrador. I was born in Alabama on Christmas day, 2016. I am a certified explosives detection K9 and enjoy coming to work!
I have three certifications:
- Vapor Wake, which includes detecting body-worn explosives
- USPCA (United States Police Canine Association), including being the first K9 in my
region to be certified in crowd screening
- I won Top Dog for the 2022 trials and placed First overall!
- NORT (National Odor Recognition Test)
I love hugs and lots of petting and am part of the Community Outreach Division, so if you see me out with my favorite K9 handler, Sergeant K. Bass, stop and say hello!
Laika
My name is Laika and I am a 10 year old female Belgian Malinois. I was born on April 13, 2014. I am certified in explosives detection.
I have two certifications:
- USPCA (United States Police Canine Association)
- I won Top Dog for the 2023 and 2024 trials and placed First overall!
- NORT (National Odor Recognition Test)
I enjoy running and playing, but most of all, I love working and searching for explosives-keeping the LSU community safe! I have been with my handler, Lieutenant T. Shows since I was a puppy.
Wik
My name is Wik and I am a 5 year old male Dutch Shephard. I am certified in explosives detection.
I have two certifications:
- NNDDA (National Narcotics Detector Dog Association)
- USPCA (United States Police Canine Association)
My handler is Patrol Officer J. Jackson and I was partnered with him in May of 2022. I was donated to the LSU Police Department by K9s4COPS.
Billy
My name is Billy and I am a 1 1/2 year old yellow labrador. I was born on September 27, 2022 and am from Virginia! I am currently in training to become certified in explosives detection.
My handler is Patrol Officer L. Brouillette and I was partnered with him in July of 2024.
I love playing with my ball, I love the water, and I snore very loudly when I'm sleeping!
I am excited to start working and looking forward to seeing all of the LSU fans and students on campus! Stop and say hello when you see me!
